Singcircle consists of distinguished solo and ensemble singers.  It became best-known for its performances of Stockhausen’s ‘Stimmung’, which it performed at the Proms in the Royal Albert Hall in 1978, followed by an award-winning recording of the work, and in 1985 performed the work with composer in the Barbican Hall, one of around 50 performances.  The ensemble appeared again in the Proms in 1979, performing Alejandro Viñao’s ‘Son Entero’.

Sound projectionists who have worked with the ensemble: Stephen Montague, Simon Emmerson, Jonty Harrison, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Kathinka Pasveer and John Whiting.

Singcircle commissioned many composers, including Jonathan Harvey, David Bedford, Trevor Wishart, Stephen Montague, Wayne Siegel, Simon Emmerson, Jonty Harrison, Ivan Moody, Michael Nyman, Jøran Rudi and Remigijus Merkelys amongst others.

Other highlights of Singcircle’s performances: participation in ‘Cage at 70’ Festival, ‘Reich at 50’ Festival (both directed by Gregory Rose); Berio ‘A Ronne’, Xenakis ‘Nuits’, Ligeti ‘Lux Aeterna’, Mesias Maiguashca  and Scelsi ‘Tre Canti Popolari’.  Singcircle made Arts Council Network Tours in the UK, and a tour of Norway in 1990, culminating in the ISCM Festival in Oslo.  Other festivals: Warsaw Autumn Festival, Linz, Karlsruhe, Turku, Tartu, Mafra, Aarhus, Coimbra,  and twice at the Sonorities Festival in Belfast.
